Isabelsaurus in the Wild
Isabelsaurus in the Wild is a picture-book series about a young dinosaur named Isabelsaurus, her dad, and the ordinary, real moments of growing up — new schools, new friends, and the stuff that feels big when you're a kid. Inspired by my own daughter, Isabel.
Isabelsaurus is named for my daughter, Isabel. This one's personal — it started as a book I wanted to write for her, and it's grown into a series I'm building with her.
These aren't "issue books." Isabelsaurus is a kid living her life — starting a new school, making a new friend, worrying about a big test — the same things every kid goes through. Some of it is inspired by real things Isabel and I work through together, woven in lightly, the way it actually shows up in a real kid's life: present, not the plot.
"You can be scared and brave at the same time."
That line is from the first book, and it's become the whole point of this series — stories that are honest about the hard, nervous parts of being a kid, without ever losing the warmth.
A growing series, one everyday adventure at a time.
Isabelsaurus and her dad move to a new town, and she has to start at a brand-new school. With her cat by her side and a little courage from her dad, she learns that you can be scared and brave at the same time.
Recess used to feel quiet and lonely. Then Isabelsaurus meets Jaxsyn under the fern tree — and learns what it means to have a real friend, and to stand up for one.
